Massage Therapy

Massage Therapy is a therapeutic massage for muscle and soft tissue. It is mainly used to prevent musculoskeletal disorders or rehabilitate those who have been affected. It is a health treatment which includes the combination of different techniques with the aim of removing biological limitations. Being one of the most ancient and widespread techniques, it is widely used in the cases of trauma, with the ability to give psychological benefits. This therapy is recommended for the following issues; muscle aches, muscle contractions, stress, fluid retention, cervical pain, dorsal pain, lower back pain in which case as slight betterment of vascularity can be had and for an increased elasticity of tissues to help ease pain.

Craniosacral Therapy (Upledger Method)

The craniosacral system: craniosacral therapy is a technique perfected by the osteopath John E. Pledger, professor of Biomechanics of the Faculty of Medical Osteopathy of the University of Michigan. More than 30 years ago, during a surgical procedure, he noticed a slight movement of the cranium (meninges) which had never been noted before, and started to study the phenomena. Thus it was discovered that the sacral cranium had a rhythm and after 20 years of research, a specific method was created based on this physiological movement. This rhythm provides the brain, that organ responsible for maintaining a physiological and psychological balance in an individual, with the correct nutrients. The rhythm is altered when there are organic pathologies of physical or psychological traumas. The crania-sacral system is named after the bones and vertebrae that surround the nervous system; that is, the cranium and sacrum bone. The brain and the bone marrow are covered by protective membranes (Dura Madre, Aracnoide and Pia Madre) that form a sort of shell, in which cerebrospinal fluid flows. This fluid is produced and reabsorbed in the skull creating a rhythm which extends throughout the body, with slight movements, in connection to various bones of the cranium and along the spinal cord to the sacrum and in the peripheral parts of the body through connective tissue.

Sports Therapy

Sports, which is synonyms with health and physical well-being, is a field in which various massage techniques can be applied with excellent results at any age. Sports massage is effective during and after a race. A massage session helps better performance, preparing specific muscles for determinate functions, depending on their task. It is especially important to massage the muscles after a performance. In fact, the techniques aim to decongest, drain and relax all the tissues involved.

Traditional Massage (Swedish)

The most ancient and natural cure: the massage: history, benefits, recommendation and contraindications. The term massage may derive from the Arab word “mass” or “mash” (friction, press) or from the Greek term “masso” (kneed, mould). The physical and psychological benefits of this practice have been known since ancient times. It can be confirmed that the art of medicine started with the massage. Massage therapy is used widely in rehabilitative, athletic, vascular, aesthetic and rheumatological medicine, even if the universal techniques, as mentioned before, are more vastly used than one can imagine. The therapists of Stuio Vis are registered members of the National Association of Massage Therapists (A.Na.M)

Breuss Massage

Introduction: It is a very relaxing treatment, dedicated entirely to the spinal cord. The term derives from its founder Rudolf Breuss, Austrian Naturopath. During the treatment, the patient falls into a deep torpor and in some cases falls asleep and wakes up very relaxed and calm, which is a very important end result in the case of psychosomatic tension. What is it: This technique can treat and successfully resolve such issues such as lower back pain, back pain, lumber sciatica and acute back strain. The massage can also intervene, as a consequence, on internal organs and to reduce stressful situations cause by an ill positioned vertebrae. This massage uses flowing, enveloping, circular and long winded movements to embrace the entire spinal cord, giving an extraordinary feeling of well being and serenity and a release of tension in the joints. Theory: The Breuss Massage is conducted by applying different relaxing maneuvers to stretch the muscles of the vertebrae to favour its natural state. Hypericum oil is used during this massage (for its sedative and anti inflammatory properties). There is another finer phase to this massage wherein a piece of oiled paper is laid on the back of the patient while the therapist massages the spinal cord. The Breuss massage is a manually energetic massage as much as it is spiritually sensitive to help release old tensions at a physical, energetic and emotional level. From a biochemical point of view, the paper creates a hot and humid area on the skin, a type of greenhouse effect, which relaxes and hydrates the patient’s back and consequently releases muscle tension and inevitably pain.

Elasto Taping

It is a non evasive and non pharmacological technique which, through the application of an elastic tape which contains mechanical properties, offers a mechanical stimulation able to create space in the tissues, favour cellular metabolism, activate the body’s natural capacity to heal itself and normalize the neuromuscular proprioception. This technique, in comparison to traditional taping, relies on skins and muscle movement so as to obtain a biomechanics effect on the specific areas. In order for this to happen, certain factors must come into play: the method of application, the taping technique which is defined decompressing or “drainage” and that which is defined compressing or “absorption” and the therapist’s skills. The tape itself is made of high quality cotton with an acrylic, adhesive strip. Lengthwise, the strip has the same elasticity of our skin (40%). The tape is hypoallergenic, it allows the skin to breathe and is water resistant.

What is it: Neurotraining (literally neurological training) combines kinesiology and other holistic methods making it unique in its kind. The techniques used give “the best neurological options” to the organism and allow the individual to discover and overcome present and past sources of stress, without being stifled. The therapy involves stimulating innate functional aspects: life experiences can be seen as a type of Neuro-Training and we can draw benefits from any type of experience. In Neuro-Training we focus on specific experiences which are natural for the subconscious and nervous system. It is a specialization which elaborates on the basic concepts of “muscle testing” ( a primary element that distinguishes kinesiology from other techniques) adding new and extremely efficient techniques. Aside from “muscle monitoring” and kinesiology techniques, Neuro-Training offers Innate Systems and Specific Skills that do not require muscle monitoring. The first technique helps regain a general psychophysical well being and the latter is aimed towards specific factors such as mental, physical and emotional states.

Fascial Visceral Mobilizzation

Visceral manipulation can locate visceral tension, helping the mobilization and function of organs. It helps to dissipate the negative effects of stress to better the condition of one’s overall health and resistance to illnesses. Visceral movements are at the basis of excellent health considering the multiple connections between organs, muscles and bones. This technique aims to deepen its understanding of the body’s layers at a visceral level; treating and mobilizing them to restore a more liberal movement so as to eliminate restrictions and to elasticize adhesions which could be a result of trauma, surgery or infection.

Metamorphic Massage

The metamorphic technique is a simple tool which allows us to free ourselves of any limitation so as to get closer to our potential. Basically, it helps us help ourselves. During treatment, the therapist lightly touches the patient’s foot, hand and head. In this way, the patient receives a relaxing space in which to “simply be”. Some like to speak while others prefer to remain undisturbed. The session lasts about one hour and twenty minutes. The metamorphic technique is unique in that it is not a therapy nor a treatment and it is not even a massage or a healing method. A diagnosis or deep manipulation are not needed. People are usually attracted by the Metamorphic Technique in different periods of their lives: a new job, a move, a divorce, a bereavement or an illness. Many seem to better face these transitory situations. Some choose to make drastic changes without analyzing the past, others find they gain new coping skills; but above all, most people become more creative with their lives. The technique is safe for everyone, it is empowering and helps follow through with goals one might have set. It can be used singularly or with other alternative methods. The technique is pleasing and relaxing, suitable for anyone who wants change in their lives, gather a deeper understanding of oneself or simply experience a tranquil moment.

Bemer® Physical Vascular Therapy

This technique betters microcirculation and stimulates the blood circulation of micro vessels, thus improving cell efficiency, diminishing pain while helping the body’s natural capability to heal itself. An efficient microcirculation helps the immune system’s defences and prevents illnesses. A regular use of this technique helps to effectively contrast mood swings. It also helps the body’s natural capacity to heal itself.
